Sensei, South West Washington Kokondo Mr. DeMoisey retired from the U. S. Army’s Special Operations after serving twenty one years in a variety of leadership positions in combat arms which include, but are not limited to: Squad leader, platoon sergeant/platoon leader with the 2d Battalion (RANGER) 75TH Infantry as one of the original members at Ft. Lewis, Washington. He served as the senior engineer, intelligence NCO, and team sergeant with the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), 10th SFG(A) At Bad Toelz Germany and the 1st SFG(A) At Ft Lewis ,WA. Mr. DeMoisey has been deployed around the world and survived numerous combat engagements as his country called upon him and his fellow operators. After retiring from the service Mr. DeMoisey continued to teach and instruct SWAT police and special operations solders around the world until returning to the front lines in the global war on terrorism (GWOT) for over five years in Southern Asia. Martial arts back ground: Mr. DeMoisey began his lifelong interest in martial arts while still in high school by studying judo several night s a week until graduation. Immediately upon graduation he entered the U. S. Army where after initial training and Airborne school spent the next several years as a participant in the South East Asian war games (RVN). While assigned to Germany, Mr. DeMoisey met an instructor in the Okinawa style of Shorin Ryu and was able to stay with this system as both he and his instructor were transferred back to the same duty station in the States. After several years their assignments caused them to part and Mr. DeMoisey took up several different other style to broaden his techniques and knowledge. These systems include Nippon Kubudo Regoki (Japanese), /Shoto Kan, Mu Duk Quan (Korean). Upon volunteering and being accepted to the newly formed RANGER Battalion at FT. Lewis, Mr. DeMoisey found it impossible to maintain any sort of consistent regimen with martial arts due to constant training and deployments. Ultimately he had to be satisfied with being the Battalion hand to hand instructor until his reassignment. However that was not to be, as upon returning to Special Forces he was once more deploying and training at a rate that did not allow for such extracurricular activities such as martial arts. In 2000 Mr. DeMoisey was severely injured in a near fatal incident. A year later he was not satisfied with his recover and decided to look into joining a local gym. This gym also offered karate! As happenstance would have it, class was in session and he met Sensei Dave Clevenger of Kokondo. The hook was set instantly and he remained with Mr. Clevenger and through this Sensei’s patience, tutelage and perseverance Mr. DeMoisey was tested at the International seminar by Shihan Arel and seven of the system Masters to earn his probationary black belt. The following year, Mr. DeMoisey was made full Shodan and awarded an instructor rating. This was put into practical application by starting ‘The Little Dojo in the Sand’ at various sites throughout the war zones. In 2010 Mr. DeMoisey was again tested and found worthy of being promoted to Nidan (second degree black belt). Sensei quote:Yes, I have been and done! Of all the martial arts I have been a part of and or witnessed, Kokondo is the most complete self defense system-period. Anyone with an interest in self defense, we can show you the path-you have to walk it! |
