Kata are pre-arranged sequences of self defense techniques that allow the student to practice many aspects of Kokondo. Through visualization the student can practice the target and power of the techniques. Through repetition the student may increase his or her endurance and strength. With this practice the student will perfect the basics that form the foundation of Kokondo. There are hundreds of kata, many of which are centuries old. They first originated in China and Okinawa. The following is a list of the kata currently taught by Kokondo. (Courtesy of the Boston Kokondo and Jukido Academy.)
